Oetinger Typeface

Oetinger is a blackletter display face designed by Max Littledale and Mitch Hopkins while studying at Hochschule Darmstadt in Germany. This typeface was inspired by a black metal show we attended for a class at Oetinger Villa, a mansion built 1898 that now serves as a youth centre and music venue.

Inspired by the concert and the unique venue we decided to create a contemporary blackletter typeface that reflects the tradition and function of Oetinger Villa. We sought to create a more modern and approachable typeface that broke through the exclusive attitude of both black metal and blackletter.
